The Clarks Men's Ash Gore-Tex boots are a well built boot that is designed for all day comfort while enduring heavy work. I purchased the boots for their waterproof qualities and good looks. I typically buy Clarks for the quality and comfort and these boots live up to the billing. I use the boots as a fashion boot working in an office environment and they look good with cords and slacks. They are definitely better built than the typical fashion boot I usually purchase from Clarks. As a result, they are not the super lightweight type of fashion boot I have worn in the past. Also, as a result of them being a hardier built boot, they seem to be more comfortable after a break in period. Not that they were uncomfortable at first wear, but they did get better after a break in period. The boots have a substantial feel to them. I've worn them off and on for a month now and won't part with them. They do well in the snow and keep my feet dry. I like that they do not track snow into the office. They are not warm lined so they are perfect indoor wear. Most of all I like the comfort and the way they look.As others stated and from my long life experience with Clarks products, this has all the high qualities you would expect from such reputable brand so I'll move straight to the "con".I usually wear 10.5-11 and based on what an earlier poster suggested I purchased the 10.5After 2 weeks of wearing it, I started to have quite a bit of pain on both lateral (outside part) sides of my ankles where even light touch to the area was painful. I quit using the boots and the pain went away within a week. I tried it again and the pain came back. Even though the friction while wearing the boots isn't intense enough to be a bother, it's clearly enough to cause long lasting effect. This is very unfortunate as I was really counting on it for more frequent use. Now it has moved to the side of the shoe rack for the occasional use when it's a must that I have boots (like mud or snow) and for only a brief time. I tried size 11 at the store and it felt too big. Hope my experience is unique and that others are enjoying it better. Would love to hear your experience and if I know for sure this won't happen with a larger size (which I doubt since it's only the top of the boots that is a bother), then I'm willing to buy another one.I have purchased 3 pairs of these over the last 5 years. The boots last about 2 years under everyday use. Usually the sole starts to separate from the shoe first which causes them to leak. I work as an HVAC service tech and go in and out constantly. In the summer I need a boot that is waterproof yet has no additional insulation to make my feet hot. These boots are perfect because they use the Gortex material but are not insulated for winter use. No steel toes and good flexibility make these boots great for bending down without hurting your feet. As mentioned in a different review, the tread on the bottom is fairly flat which helps keep a better amount of the debris off my boots.I plan on purchasing another pair here in the next few months. The boots are excellent in quality and price. Clark shoes have an excellent reputation and these boots are no exception. I give 4 of 5 stars because the sizing can be a problem if you are not familiar with the line of boots. They run sometimes 2 sizes too big. You really need to have had a pair and know your size to get the right ones. Otherwise, you might have to send them back and try again. Even if you had to send them back, they are well worth the wait to get the right ones. I had a pair which lasted years of abuse in extreme outdoor conditions and they are still in good shape today.I like the shoes but sent them back because they were too big. I've worn a size 12 since my late teens. Never had a size twelve be this big, on my foot. It's more like a thirteen because most 12s are a little tight on me. If anything. I might update once the return process is complete. Funny thing. I couldn't find this model on Clark's websiteThe real color is very deep brown almost dark! Frankly, if I knew the real color I won't buy it, the picture here is so inaccurate. Otherwise, very nice!Nice looking boot with the expected comfort Clarks is known for. A little difficult to put on and take off due to the gore-tex liner. The tread is less aggressive than I expected, not really like a hiker. My previous pair was black and the best everyday/work/motorcycle boots I've ever had. So comfortable, waterproof and previous pair lasted many years. Wish they still had black available. Got the brown only because i loved the black ones so much. Much better than my Bates and my Rockoorts.I love these boots and am sorry that they are not currently in production. I usually order a size 9, but haveing worn 2 pair or 9's and feeling they were slightly too loose, I ordered size 8 1/2 and they are just right.
